A New Leaf | Jules Ko Photography
For many years now, I’ve taken to growing house plants, herbs, and bonsai as if they were my pets. I’ve named them quite colorful names in the past, like Aravis, and Noelle, and I’ve even dropped them off at several friends’ homes on occasions I traveled out of country to make sure my babies would be well taken care of. Since Dan and I got married, Orchids have been added to the family, but they have yet to flower in our home. Any tips? I do give them orchid plant food, but just the greens multiply.
When I got settled into our new home 2 years ago, some of the plants that moved in with me couldn’t survive the north west facing window’s sun exposure, and shriveled up and died. I was saddened by the angle of the kitchen window.
Although I pot herbs we commonly use every spring, last Sunday, we found the one we’ve been searching for! Thai Basil at Mahoneys! In our excitement, unlike my usual habits, I came home and potted it right away, and even planted new seeds (cilantro) into new pots. We’ve been staring at it daily to make sure the strong winds weren’t stressing it out too much, or if the recent warm weathers weren’t drying out the new soil. But guess what I found last night! The new seeds have germinated!!! Here they come!!!!
Boston is claiming it’s arrival of summer, but in our balcony, it’s spring!
When a coriander sprouts, it is now a cilantro seedling!
