Is an engagement session for you?
Is an engagement session for you?
Some of my clients approach me, thinking that an engagement session is not for them. Their reasons may be, that they don’t like being photographed, or that they don’t see it necessary, or even find it to be too ‘showy.’ While it’s not a requirement to have an engagement session in order to have me photograph your wedding, it’s a wonderful opportunity for the couple to have some fun, and capture the spirit of their courtship without the pressure and schedule of the wedding day.
An engagement session can be as dressy as you want, or as casual as you want. You can pick out a location that’s sentimental to you, or someplace you both find beautiful to mark this occasion in your life. If you are getting married during the summer, I’d recommend you to consider doing a spring or a fall engagement session so you can get a different season as a backdrop. The images from the engagement session will also provide beautiful images for you to use on your wedding day decor or slideshow. A custom designed engagement album/guest sign in book is available as well. Please see below:
But another great reason to do an engagement session, is that it will give us a chance to work together in front of the camera. Every client I’ve photographed an engagement session with, tells me afterwards how much fun they had, or how it wasn’t as ‘bad’ as they thought it would be. The nervous party always seem much more relaxed on the wedding day to be photographed, because the trust with my shooting style and ease of me directing them is already in their comfort zone. And on certain occasions, as I edit the engagement session, it helps me prepare what to do and not do with specific couples on their wedding day.
If you look back on the images of your parent’s dating days, or even your grandparents when they were in their young adult days, you’ll get a better feel for how precious these images of you and your fiancee during your engagement period would be. Above is a precious one to me, of my parents.
